Hackett and Bankwell is an educational comic book that teaches users about and how to use Ubuntu Linux through hands-on examples and clear, easy-to-follow explanations. Learning a new computer operating system can be an exhausting experience, especially when you get to peer under the hood like with Linux-based operating systems. Unlike most commercial operating systems, where users are removed from the mechanics of the platform, Linux-based operating systems grant their users great freedoms, such that they can become developers themselves if they so desire.

Because of the great flexibility Linux users have, they face a steep learning curve when they try to get started using the open source platform. They wonder “How do I install programs?” and “What is a file system?” and “What is GNU?” and “What is a GUI?” Hackett and Bankwell improves the Linux experience by answering all these questions and more in a clear and coherent fashion. Rather than starting out with lists of technical terms, Hackett and Bankwell explains what the terms mean by showing and giving readers hands-on examples.
